It's been an eventful week around here. Last Thursday night when I came in from work it was a balmy 84 degrees in the house. We called our AC guy and he came out on Friday and added Freon to the unit. Since then the house has been nice and cool. That is, until yesterday. Clint came home and it was 84 again. Our AC guy came back a few hours later and informed us yesterday that we'd have to have a new unit installed outside. We agreed, and after a night of sleeping in underwear with fans and 82 degree temps, I wasn't a bit upset about the money I would have to part with today. That is, until I got the call at work that the inside unit also had to be replaced. You have to be kidding me, right? So there goes the money we've set aside for the new carpet. Looks like it will be another few months until we can get the house ready to sell.
Madelyn and I were talking last night on the way to Poppie's house (where we were going to escape the heat) and she put things in perspective. She was asking questions (as she always does) about why we live in Cordova and Nana is in Collierville, etc. I told her we were going to sell our house and buy a bigger one. She did not seemed thrilled by the idea. I finally asked her, "Madelyn, do you like our house?" Being wise beyond her years, she stated in a very matter-of-fact tone, "Yeah, it's better than concrete!!" Amen, sister!
Madelyn has been saying the most hilarious things lately!!
When in Destin for Aunt A's wedding, Nana was putting her to bed while we were all at the rehearsal dinner. Madelyn said very sweet prayers....
"Jesus, thank you for Mom and Dad and Aubrey and purple, and orange....BUT NOT black. (Insert long pause) ....Well, ok black"
At field day yesterday I talked to Madelyn's teacher, Ms. Darla for a long time. She asked me is Madelyn's sister was named Aubrey. Well, yes, why? I asked. She told me she overheard Madelyn talking to her friend Reese the other day and it went something like this..."Aubrey can say Mama, and Dada, and Byebye. But that's all because she doesn't really talk that good!"
I'll try to remember to post more Madelyn'isms as they happen.
